As the Instructor, Level I (or Level II) Mandarin Speaking, you will be responsible for directly supporting the Head Instructor, as well as the Instructor, Level II within specific sports or arts area. Instructor, Level I (or Level II) Mandarin Speaking will work as part of a team to ensure a safe, productive and enjoyable experience for all campers.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

·         Provide support to the Head Instructor, as well as the Instructor, Level II in the planning and execution of activities

·         Actively participate in all assigned aspects of the campers’ day including activities, meal times, games, etc.

·         Maintain positive relations with campers, parents and the Appleby Community

·         Follow all camp procedures and policies, including Appleby’s Mutual Respect policy

·         Participate in all required training related to Health & Safety

·         Ensure the safety and supervision of all campers

·         Provide assistance to the Instructors through interpretation in Mandarin, to ensure that camp activities are inclusive to all participants that are English Language Learners (E.L.L.)

·         Act as a translation resource to all camp staff when needed for E.L.L Campers

·         Create programming to integrate E.L.L. campers with into camp activities

·         Provide support to campers from our C.E.C. (Canadian Experience Camp) who speak Mandarin

 

Knowledge and Skills:

·         Fluency in Mandarin required

·         Applicant should have completed Secondary School

·         Experience working/volunteering with children in a camp setting in a leadership role or area of special instruction (Sports, Arts, etc.)

·         Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills

·         Team oriented, motivational and creative

·         Energetic and enthusiastic

·         Bronze Cross and/or NLS certification in lifeguarding is an asset

·         Coaching certifications/experience for Sports Camps is an asset

 

Workplace Requirements:

·         Successful candidates must attend the required training sessions from May 31, 2019 – June 2, 2019

·         As a condition of employment, a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening is required

·         Valid Standard First Aid and CPR – C (certified on, or after Sept. 2017) is required

 

Appleby College Camps and Academies provide the highest quality of instruction to campers in a fast paced and challenging work environment.  Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications.
