As the Magic Camp Head Instructor, Arts and Media, you will be responsible for providing the lead instruction as well as overseeing other instructors and ensuring a safe, productive and enjoyable experience for all campers. Applicant should be a post-secondary educate or equivalent in a related discipline. 

 

Specific Accountabilities:

o    Teach campers magic tricks and how to create their own magic show

o    Offer an exceptional creative outlet where campers learn to have fun while achieving a variety of talents

o    Develop, plan and supervise respective discipline of the summer camp program

o    Instruct and lead specialized activities with campers and instructors

o    Create schedules and lesson plans for activities that allow for the highest quality experience and ensures flexibility to coordinate with other programs

o    Follow and ensure camp procedures and policies are adhered to at all times to include Appleby’s Mutual Respect Policy

o    Manage and problem solve issues with campers, staff and volunteers

o    Ensure all staff within respective discipline receives the proper training related to health and safety

o    Ensure the safety and supervision of all campers, staff and visitors

 

Knowledge and Skills:

o    Strong organizational capabilities and experience hosting/directing activities in front of large groups.

o    Proven excellence in instructional abilities and fostering creativity with youth

o    Leadership experience in a similar camp/recreation program setting is required

o    Experience building relationships with staff, campers, and parents/guardians

o    Bronze Cross and/or NLS certification in lifeguarding is an asset

o    Applicants for this position should have completed min. 2nd year university/college and have thorough knowledge & previous experience instructing Arts & Media programs.

o    Excellent time management and organizational skills

o    Team oriented, motivational and creative

o    Energetic and enthusiastic

o    Demonstrates effective problem solving skills

 

Workplace Requirements:

·         Successful candidates must attend the required training sessions from  May 29 – 31, 2020

·         As a condition of employment, a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening is required

·         Valid Standard First Aid and CPR – C (certified on, or after Sept. 2018) is required

 

Appleby College Summer Camp Programs provide the highest quality of instruction to campers in a fast paced and challenging work environment.  Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications.
